Cinquième succès en carrière pour Gruber
Et déjà un quatrième podium cet hiver pour l'expérimenté combiné Autrichien. Troisième à Chaux Neuve, deuxième à Seefeld, le voilà aujourd'hui sur la plus haute marche du podium sur le site du Val di Fiemme.
Sixième après le concours de saut à ski remporté par le Norvégien Thomas Kjelbotn, Gruber accusait un retard de 47sec au départ du 10km.
Kjelbotn prenait ensuite un très bon départ et conservait une quinzaine de secondes d'avance à la mi-course sur une groupe d'une dizaine d'hommes. Parmi eux on retrouve Jan Schmid, Espen Andersen le deuxième du saut, Gruber et de nombreux outsiders.
Frenzel et Moan sont plus loin en compagnie de Sébastien Lacroix.
Le Norvégien Thomas Kjelbotn se fera reprendre à 2.5km de l'arrivée par le groupe de pousuivants. Ensuite c'est un autre Scandinave, Jan Schmid, qui lance une nouvelle offensive.
Seuls Gruber et son jeune coéquipier Schneider parviennent à s'accrocher.
Le groupe de trois va se disloquer quelques centaines de mètres plus tard avec l'accélération décisive de Berhnard Gruber qui s'en ira gagner pour la première fois cet hiver avec 7sec de marge sur Jan Schmid.
Derrière Joergen Graabak, le champion olympique, revient comme un boulet de canon du 27eme rang passer la révélation Sepp Schneider dans la dernière ligne droite.
Les gros bras Kokslien, Frenzel et Moan prennent les places d'honneur après une grosse course de fond.

Belle 11eme place pour Sébastien Lacroix.
Le Jurassien, 15eme après le saut, termine à 28sec du vainqueur. François Braud se classe 17eme.
L'espoir Geoffrey Lafarge vient prendre une encourageante 21eme place et signer son meilleur résultat en coupe du monde depuis deux ans.
30eme place pour Maxime Laheurte. Jason Lamy-Chappuis, pas encore remis de sa blessure, ne participe pas à cette étape qui se poursuivra samedi et dimanche.

Bernhard Gruber (AUT) „The jumping was a challenge today with the heavy snowfall but we were able to manage this quite well. I had a good jump and the cross-country race developed well. I had fast legs and in the end and my last uphill definitely was a „Burner“-uphill (laughs). I totally went for it and was able to hold my advantage until the finish line."
Jan Schmid (NOR): „Today was a bit of a difficult day on the hill. I have never been so relaxed in a competition jump because I was 100% sure the PCR wouldn’t count… then the wind came! But the position for me after the jump was good, especially compared to the other strong guys in the World Cup. I felt today I had the chance to finally win a race this season. But in the end, Berni was just strong enough to hang on and stronger than me in the last climb. I tried everything that I could. I’m starting to get a bit tired now so it’s going to be nice with the weeks off now. But I think I can do two more competitions.“
Joergen Graabak (NOR): „My jumping was better today and I was able to put myself in a good position behind Mikko. I struggled a lot in the cross-country, they were going really fast in the front of my group. I had to hang on with all my power. I managed to stick with the leading group in the last lap and, yeah, a great finish and a good day for me today."
